To our Little Buffalos teachers…thank you.

A mom pauses at the door, holding something she can’t ever replace.
Backpack zipped. Shoes on the wrong feet. One last look back...
Her son doesn’t hesitate. He spots his teacher, drops her hand, and runs.
There’s a quick wave over the shoulder. Then he’s gone.

She stands there for a beat anyway, because in that moment, she’s handing off the most important thing in her life…and somehow, she feels completely at peace about it.

But that doesn’t just happen by accident.

Back in 2018, when we moved Vortex to Barneveld, we knew we were asking a lot of our team. New town, longer commute and a much smaller community. At the same time, a lot of our people were stepping into a new season - getting married and starting families. We loved our new home, but it didn’t have many childcare options.

We kept coming back to a simple question: What would it look like to take care of them here?
So we made a bet. We built…Little Buffalos Preschool.

And today, it’s filled with moments like that one at the door. Teachers down on one knee, eye to eye with a nervous three-year-old. A room full of laughter that somehow turns into nap time silence five minutes later. Tiny humans learning how to share, how to try again, how to be brave in small ways that add up. And parents walking out the door feeling something rare. Trust.

And the teachers…they're the reason it all works.

They are patient on the hard days. Creative when things get chaotic. Steady when a kid just needs someone to sit with them for a minute. They carry more weight than anyone sees, and they do it with a kind of care that sticks with those kids long after they leave.

This week is Teacher Appreciation Week, and at Vortex®, we’re especially grateful for the women who show up every day at Little Buffaloes and take that responsibility seriously.

But there’s another layer to this story though…

A preschool like this doesn’t exist without something fueling it. It exists because of thousands of small moments that happen right down the road. Moments inside Vortex: A call with a customer, a dealer interaction, a problem solved the right way.

Those moments create something we call a Return on Rare. And over time, that gives us the ability to invest in something bigger. To build something that matters for our people and their families. To take care of what they care about most.

When you serve people well enough, long enough…you earn the right to invest in the future.
That’s what this is.
